Apologies to those who have spent the last couple of days wondering how my sister of parturition fame is faring. She gave birth three and a half hours after having gone into labour, to a baby, who, in the words of an email from my step-dad today, ’shouts a lot’. The baby girl, Squeak, was at the bottom end of the average weight, has clearly given all who have met her so far great joy, and is the first member of the next generation of my family.
I got the news just after midnight on Tuesday morning. The fact that she was born in a time zone two hours east of us means that she was well into the 22nd February, and therefore avoided being born on Mugabe’s birthday, settling instead on George Washington’s.
Grumpy commented to me yesterday that he is concerned that I will go from writing trenchant and caustic commentary on the world around me to being a gushy aunt. While I may admit to being slightly overwhelmed, I vehemently deny all rumours that I was sighted cooing over little shoes in Monsoon Baby yesterday at lunch time .
Oh dear – and it was all going so well. Things seemed to ticking over fine with daily entries on the Blog – that is – up to the birth of your nephew!!. By my reckoning Mistaken Identity followed 3 days after the entry prior and 4 days will have elapsed since. Is Recidivism setting recurring. Readers will speculate as to the causes.

Thanks for the comment – although would be nice if you left a name! I’m afraid that the real explanation is far more prosaic – involving 30th birthday parties, enormous hangovers, and international travel to visit my niece in a place where internet access is not the easy wifi experience of being in bed with laptop. Have a few posts which I will be pre-dating and putting up, so the gap will become smaller. And I will be endeavouring not to become a victim of my own moniker, and try and post a bit more now.
